# Setup Requirements

Before setup, all items and conditions the appliance requires must be confirmed as present and ready.

## Appliance and components

    Confirm the appliance is intact and free of visible damage.

  <Step title="Gather the components">
    Confirm the required components are on hand: the appliance, the BMC/NIC component, the power supply and cable, and the equipment used for connectivity and for delivering traffic. The optional components included with a kit are listed on its delivery record.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the transport components">
    The BMC/NIC component and the power supply are removed for transport. Both must be present, as they are reinstalled before startup.

  Any suitable laptop may be used to connect to the appliance. Laptops supplied with a kit may be used, but connection is not limited to them.

## Environment

    A stable 110V/120V AC power source at the setup location. A UPS is recommended for a clean, uninterrupted supply.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Traffic source">
    A means of delivering a copy of network traffic to the appliance, such as a network TAP or a switch SPAN (mirror) port. This must be in place and operational before the appliance can monitor traffic.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Aggregator, if required">
    Where traffic is collected from more than one point simultaneously, a TAP aggregator consolidates those feeds into a single stream for the appliance. An aggregator is optional and required only when combining multiple sources.
